Workshop: Cook-Along with Abi Balingit

Sunday, 12/15/2024
12:00 - 1:00

Baker-fundraiser, Abi Balingit, will discuss her cookbook, Mayumu: Filipino American Desserts Remixed, and host a live cook-along with the audience.

Abi’s cookbook, Mayumu (which means “sweet” in Kapampangan, a Philippine language), features 75 recipes blending innovative flavors with classic Filipino desserts. The book also includes essays reflecting Abi’s journey from her parents’ homeland in Pampanga, Philippines, to her upbringing in California, and finally to her current home in Brooklyn, NY. Mayumu celebrates the Filipino American experience with both nostalgic and excitingly new recipes.

Abi Balingit is the woman behind the blog, The Dusky Kitchen. She made waves during the pandemic by selling pasalubong (which means souvenir in Tagolog) treat boxes filled with incredibly imaginative Filipino-inspired desserts and donating the proceeds to help those impacted by COVID-19 and has been covered by Thrillist, Eater, Bon Appetit, Food52, TimeOut, VICE and more. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.

We'll be making Ube Macapuno Molten Lava Cakes. To cook alongside Abi, gather these ingredients (for 2 servings).
