Presentation: Income Taxes: The Basics

Learn about fundamental tax concepts, including the purpose and types of taxes. 

We will cover key elements such as the W-4 form, FICA taxes and the differences between federal and state taxes. We will also cover how income is reported to the IRS, the importance of filing status and the benefits of claiming dependents. Other topics include tax deductions and credits, filing requirements and the responsibilities of self-employed individuals. Information on free tax preparation services and the role of Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs) in assisting low-income taxpayers will also be provided.

Presented by the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, a program of the Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco.
