Authors Elaine Castillo and Jenny Odell will be in conversation about Castillo's new book, Moderation, about finding real romance in the virtual workplace.

An audience Q&A will follow the discussion.

Elaine Castillo, named one of “30 of the Planet’s Most Exciting Young People” by the Financial Times, was born and raised in the Bay Area. Her debut novel, America Is Not the Heart, was a finalist for numerous prizes including the Elle Big Book Award, the Center for Fiction Prize, and the Aspen Words Literary Prize and was named a best book of 2018 by NPR, Real Simple, Lit Hub, The Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Post, Kirkus Reviews, and the New York Public Library.

Jenny Odell is a writer and artist based in Oakland, California. Her work generally involves acts of close observation, whether it's birdwatching, collecting screen shots, researching trash, or trying to parse bizarre forms of e-commerce. In general, she is searching for frameworks that allow us to perceive something new about everyday reality. Her first book, How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy, was published in 2019, and her second book, Saving Time: Discovering a Life Beyond the Clock, was published in 2023.
