The Moon Festival is widely known in the Bay Area, but do you know the history behind it? How many mooncake flavors have you tried? Let’s share some yummy mooncakes together while learning from local author Crystal Tai about the history, folklore (including mythological characters living on the moon!), and traditions of the Moon Festival, as well as various regional styles of mooncakes. The presentation will be given in English, with Chinese subtitles in the colorful sides.

Crystal Tai holds a Master’s degree in Education Policy, with coursework in Journalism from Stanford University. She has worked as a local news reporter, a communications specialist in the high-tech sector and a medical interpreter. Tai is also a YouTuber who frequently posts videos on her channel, Crystal Blue Sky. With her bilingual skills, she has won two translation awards and written a few nonfiction books that introduce traditional Chinese culture to English speakers, plus a historical novel titled Marco Polo in Love. Tai's nonfiction book, Seasonal Living with Splendid Poetry, is available at San Francisco Public Library. Her non-fiction book, A Poetic Portal to Chinese Culture, has brought her a Certificate of Commendation from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, for contribution to cultural diversity. Tai is also the author of two travel books, Insights into Suzhou Gardens and Yangzhou.
