Presentation: Supporting Your Family Through the Tax System

Friday, 3/6/2026
1:00 - 2:00

Navigating the tax system can be challenging for families. Whether you are caring for children, planning for education, or part of a mixed-status household, this presentation provides clear guidance on how family-related tax rules work, what to expect when filing and how to keep more of what you earn.

Topics include:

  • When a child qualifies as a dependent, and how child care and child tax credit work.
  • What to expect and how to prepare in the years before college, as well as available credits for students in accredited programs.
  • How life changes can affect your tax filing status.
  • What mixed-status families may qualify for when filing taxes.
  • How being your parents' caregiver can provide a tax exemption through IHSS benefits.
  • Why reporting cash income matters and the importance of filing and paying taxes on time.
