This 120-minute beginner workshop introduces Go (Weiqi), one of the world’s oldest strategy board games. The program combines cultural education with hands-on learning and includes:

- An introduction to the history and origins of Go, including its development in China and its global spread.

- Instruction on basic rules, capturing techniques, game-ending conditions, and simple scoring.

- Guided small-group play with instructor support.

Audience: All ages; no prior experience required.

Go Seigen Institute founded in honor of the legendary Go master Wu Qingyuan (Go Seigen) and based in San Francisco, California. The Institute is dedicated to inspiring young people through the game of Go by offering innovative educational programs, international exchange opportunities, events, and community outreach. We believe Go helps cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and cultural awareness, empowering adolescents to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

A partnership between Go Seigen Institute, the San Francisco Go Club, and the Chinese Center of San Francisco Public Library.
