Not sure how to get started with your family research? Interested in refreshing your skills? Jen Dix of the California Genealogical Society reviews the basics of getting started, with a brief discussion of census records, vital records, and organizing your research.
Jennifer Dix is an editor and former board member at the California Genealogical Society, where she oversees production of the society's journal, The California Nugget. Following a career as a newspaper and magazine writer, she turned her focus to genealogy. She completed the Boston University certificate and ProGen 37 courses of study.
This program is part of the Genealogy and Family History Symposium 2026, a two-day conference presented by the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) and the California Genealogical Society (CGS), featuring speakers from SFPL, CGS, the Oakland FamilySearch Center, SFgenealogy and other organizations presenting on a wide range of topics.
