Learn the fundamentals of intellectual property and how it can help protect your business. This practical workshop introduces the basics of trademarks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets, and explains how these forms of intellectual property apply to small businesses. Participants will learn how to identify intellectual property assets, understand the differences between the major types of protection, recognize common infringement risks and know when legal protection may be appropriate. Whether you're launching a new business or growing an existing one, this session will provide a practical introduction to protecting your ideas, brand and creative work.

Kristyn Webb is the founding attorney of Vitruvian IP Law LLC, where she advises entrepreneurs and businesses on trademarks, copyrights, licensing and intellectual property strategy. Webb holds a master's degree in U.S., UK and EU Copyright Law from King's College London and is a frequent speaker on intellectual property law.

This event is offered in partnership with the Small Business Program at the SF LGBT Center.
