Khush is an Urdu word meaning ecstatic pleasure as well as happy and gay. It has been appropriated by South Asian lesbians and gays around the world as a definition for themselves. Pratibha Parmar shot her film in Britain and India, interspersing real-life experiences with dreamlike fantasies, Indian film clips, and dance performance. In India homosexuality is illegal. The lives of western South Asian lesbians and gay men are riddled with racism and rejection.
