Tongo Eisen-Martin, San Francisco’s current, eighth Poet Laureate, and Kim Shuck, the city’s seventh Poet Laureate, co-curate this evening’s special edition of SFPL’s monthly poetry event. Featured readers include Josiah Luis Alderete, James Cagney, Lourdes Figueroa and Mimi Tempestt.

Tongo Eisen-Martin is San Francisco’s Poet Laureate. He is the author of Heaven Is All Goodbyes, which was shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize, received the California Book Award for Poetry, an American Book Award, and a PEN Oakland Book Award. He is also the author of someone's dead already and the forthcoming Blood on the Fog.

Kim Shuck is a San Francisco poet laureate emerita. She gets up to all manner of poetic mischief. 

James Cagney is the author of the poetry collection, Black Steel Magnolias in the Hour of Chaos Theory, winner of the PEN Oakland Josephine Miles award in 2019. Black Steel Magnolias is available now from NomadicPress.org.

Lourdes Figueroa is an oral poet. Her poems are a constant dialogue of her lived experience when her family worked in el azadón in Yolo County.
