Discover Sustainable Practices at the Library During Climate Action Month
April is Climate Action Month, and throughout the month, learn about the living things that inhabit our planet and discover how to be a responsible steward of the land at San Francisco Public Library (SFPL). SFPL offers activities for youth, families and individuals of all ages, including Fix-it Clinics, a textile craft swap and a recycling art project. Additional highlights include programs on bee biology, pollinator-friendly plants and compost education.
In partnership with the SF Environment Department, SFPL will host three Fix-It Clinics. On April 6 at Visitacion Valley Branch, attendees can learn how to perform basic bike tune-ups in collaboration with Bay Area BikeMobile. At Ocean View Branch on April 12 and at Ingleside on April 26, sewing experts from SCRAP, a creative reuse and arts education center, teach attendees how to repair clothing in various ways, including sewing and darning.
As a part of Climate Action Month, SFPL is excited to announce the opening of a new seed lending library at Ortega Branch! Anyone ready to try their hand at gardening can now stop by Ortega, pick up free seeds and start their own vegetable or herb gardens. The Ortega seed lending library is the fourth of its kind in the SFPL system, joining Bayview, Potrero and Portola branches.
