Guitarist Will Bernard and clarinetist/singer Beth Custer have forged a remarkable, enduring musical partnership that spans decades and is reflected in their first album, SKY, which you can stream on Bay Beats. From the opening, wistful ‘Bear in Shamanic Transformation’ (commissioned by the DeYoung Museum) to the deep and doleful ‘The Curve’, from the Chopin-influenced ‘Sweeping Staircase’ (commissioned by the Pacific Film Archive) waltz to the bluesy ‘Not Necessarily Stoned,’ SKY features each player’s diverse compositional style and mastery of their instruments. Sixteen tracks take the listener on a 52-minute, sweet, luscious road trip, leaving them wanting to take the SKY trip again and again.
