Ballet Afsaneh soloist and artistic director Natalie Nayun will present a dance from the Persian, Tajik, Uzbek, or Afghan traditions, and will speak about the cultural context, music, clothing and history of the dance style she shares.

Ballet Afsaneh takes its name from the word Afsaneh, meaning “myth” or “legend,” a term shared across many Silk Road languages. The ensemble presents dance, music and poetry of the Silk Road. Traditional repertory includes folkloric and classical dance of Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and more. Ballet Afsaneh produces a Festival of the Silk Road in the San Francisco Bay Area, performs for festivals, universities, schools, and special events nationally and internationally.
