Job Description
The Position
A Project Read tutor meets weekly with an adult learner who wants to improve their basic reading and writing skills. Tutoring takes place at a library or other appropriate public location.
Training
Project Read provides interactive and comprehensive tutor training several times a year. Please fill out the Volunteer Interest Form (see link below) to be informed of future training opportunities. Additional support is provided through tutor roundtable meetings and direct support from our staff.
Requirements
After training, tutors are expected to:
- Once matched, meet with a learner for 1–2 hours weekly at a regularly scheduled time and place for at least one year
- Plan tutoring sessions to include reading and writing instruction and practice, guided by your learner’s goals
- Periodically evaluate and report on the learner's progress
- Report volunteer hours each month
- Demonstrate patience and respect, and maintain a team approach to learning

Project Read generally needs tutors who can meet with adult learners during weekday daytimes at the Main Library. If you have only evening and/or weekend availability, or prefer to work at a branch library or virtually, we invite you to look at other library volunteer opportunities:
