Synopsis

Rights and Reactions chronicles the recent and successful fight for a gay rights ordinance in New York. The passage of Intro 2 was the culmination of a fifteen-year effort by homosexual rights activists. "Separation of Church and State" takes a beating as Protestants, Jews, and Catholics line up on both sides to stake their moral ground in front of the New York City legislature. Tempers flare, contept citations abound, and Harvey Fierstein makes an appearance. A dramatic and excellent tape that indicates why the bill might have been needed.

Synopsis

Two foster kids from hell get placed with a Beverly Hills gay couple.

Description

Eric and Phil have been waiting for Gloria to find them a baby to adopt, and she's stalling. Meanwhile, Gloria has just about given up trying to place acerbic teenager TJ and his perceptive younger brother Brian in a foster home. When Gloria calls Eric and Phil in the middle of a très gay pool party and convinces them to let her drop off the brothers "for just one night," it's difficult to determine who's more dissatisfied with the situation, the gay couple or the wary boys. Buff Eric and Phil know all about bickering around their designer Beverly Hills home bare-chested and in boxer shorts, but they don't have a clue about how to deal with the precocious kids or the kids’ impact on their relationship. Threatened with a group home or separation, the frightened boys act out, even as they seek security in this improbable setting. "Just one night" keeps getting extended, and things seem like they might be getting better until Cat, the boys' alcoholic mother, shows up with her own confused agenda. The result is a lively comedy that explores what we think love looks like and the unlikely places we find family.
