12:00 - 3:00
Celebrate the SF Main Library Open House with a full day of all-ages programming that brings the library to life. Explore every corner of the Main Library through performances, storytimes, workshops, photo-booth fun, displays and hands-on activities that reflect the creativity and spirit of San Francisco’s many communities. Whether you're listening to the sounds of the SF Symphony, making buttons in the lobby, hearing a wildlife researcher read his book, or dancing along with a Frida Kahlo lookalike, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Don't miss the powerful exhibition Tenderloin Blackness: We Are Proud to Be Black in the Tenderloin, on view in the African American Center. Honoring the history and impact of the Tenderloin neighborhood’s African American community, this exhibit features six large-scale banners highlighting the contributions of artists, advocates and residents who make the neighborhood a vital Black space. Organized by Del Seymour, Shavonne Allen, the Tenderloin Museum and others, the panels uplift the dignity and stories of leaders like Cecil Williams and Leroy Looper, alongside present-day community members.
The Open House is part of I Love Tenderloin Week and coincides with Make Music Day, adding even more energy and celebration to this vibrant day. Come for one event or spend the day—this is your library.
