Set in historic Kyoto, the fictional story of RAkU is based on a true event, the burning of a sacred temple (Kinkakuji) by a deranged monk tormented by the temple's supreme perfection.

Yuri Possokhov, who divides his time between the San Francisco Ballet and the Bolshoi in Moscow,  choreographed RAkU for prima ballerina Yuan Yuan Tan (譚元元) as the defining role of her illustrious career.
60 minutes.  Followed by Q & A with Director Shirley Sun.

This event is a part of the 2018 San Francisco International New Concept Film Festival.

This is a Films & Videos program from SFPL. From feature films to youth-made videos, we’ve got something great to watch.
