The San Francisco Public Library offers a host of services, resources and programming to Older Adults and their families and friends. Programs include lectures, films, performances, interactive classes, crafts, and education that reflect the interests of today’s older adults.

Services for Older Adults

  • Large Print Books - SFPL has a large collection of Large Print Books that includes Fiction, Mystery, Science Fiction and more.
  • Audio Books - If you prefer to listen to books, check our collection of audiobooks. The library also offers 24/7 access to eBooks and audiobooks through OverDrive and Axis360. Choose from hundreds of titles that can be downloaded to your home computer or a variety of mobile devices.
  • Genealogy Resources at the Library
  • Library by Mail - This free service is available to qualifying residents of San Francisco who are unable to leave home due to a permanent disability.
  • Talking Books and Braille Center - Services for people who have no vision, low vision or difficulty holding or reading book.
  • Hearing Loss Research Guides - Resources that can serve as a starting point for research on topics related to hearing loss.

    • Medi-Cal (California Health Insurance for Low Income Elderly) Includes forms, laws and publications from California Department of Health Care Services

    • End of Life Care Planning Information provided by the State of California on hospice care, palliative care, pain management, advance care directives and estate planning.

    • Benefits Checkup Identifies federal and state assistance programs for older Americans.

    • Caring Connections Information about issues related to the end-of-life. Includes state specific Durable Power of Attorney (Advance Directives) and Living Will forms.

    • Social Security Check out your Social Security statement and manage your benefits.

    • AARP Nonprofit organization devoted to providing information, resources, discounts and services on subjects related to helping improve the lives of people over 50.
