Project Read is the adult literacy program of San Francisco Public Library. Trained volunteer tutors provide free one-on-one tutoring to English-speaking adults who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills.
Since 1983, Project Read has provided free one-on-one tutoring and ongoing instructional support to English-speaking adults who seek to improve their basic literacy skills.
Project Read matches learners and volunteer tutors while also raising public awareness of literacy issues. Project Read is located at The Bridge at Main Literacy and Learning Center on the 5th floor of the Main Library. We are open:
Monday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm
Saturday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Learner and Tutor Services
- Free one-on-one tutoring
